History of Cleggan
Cleggan is a beautiful fishing village surrounded by bog, it has a harbour for visiting the islands of Inishturk and Inisbofin. During the Napoleonic War a watch tower was built on Cleggan Hill where its ruins can still be seen. The views from Cleggan Hill are spectacular and no words can describe the sun-sets. The area was hit with great sadness in 1927 when the 'Cleggan Disaster' occurred, 25 fishermen from the area lost their lives in a freak storm.
