Location of Ennis
Ennis Town is located in the West of Ireland in County Clare. Ennis is the county town of Clare and is situated on the River Fergus close to where the river flows into the Shannon Estuary.
History of Ennis
Ennis is a town of narrow and winding streets and is home to traditional Irish music with year-round music festivals and trad sessions throughout the town. The ruins of the Franciscan Friary, founded in 1242 by the O'Briens of Thomond, is located in the centre of Ennis town. The tomb of Mc Mahon lies here, known as the Royal Tomb it displays carvings representing the Passion of our Lord. The column in the centre of the town is there to commemorate Daniel O'Connell, the county's representative in the House of Commons from 1828 to 1831.
