Bunratty - Bun Raite - Mouth of the River Raite
Location of Bunratty
Bunratty Village is located in the West of Ireland in County Clare. Situated beside Bunratty Castle overlooking the River Raite.
History of Bunratty
Bunratty Castle has been welcoming visitors to medieval banquets since it was restored in the 1960's. The original site of the castle was a Viking trading camp in 970. The camp was destroyed by Brian Boru in 977. Around 1250, the first stage of the construction of Bunratty Castle started. The current structure was built around 1425 by the MacNamara family. Bunratty Castle and Folk Park are a major tourist attraction today.
Bunratty village caters mainly to the many tourists visiting Bunratty Castle and the Bunratty Folk Park. Along with Durty Nellys, there are a number of other pubs and restaurants in the village.
