Location of Borris
Borris Town is located on the River Barrow in the South-East of Ireland in County Carlow. A Georgian town full of heritage it is part of Ireland's Ancient East.
History of Borris
Borris House located in the town was once the primary seat of the Kings of Leinster since the 1500’s. The town prospered in the late 1800's as Arthur Mac Morrough Kavanagh, the landlord of the time, developed a sawmill and a lace-making industry. He also began the building of the 16-arch viaduct located at the edge of the town.
Borris Lace was famous for its intricate patterns and could be found in stately homes throughout the world.
The Borris Viaduct Walk offers a wonderful stroll with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
